Ponta do Sol

Ponta do Sol in the centre of the southcoast, is a romantic and idyllic small village with a small shopping centre. The nice bay is surrounded by rocks, in the summer time or even in the winter , when the atlantic is not too wild you can swim in the bay of Ponta do Sol. A little snack bar opposite the church, some shops and a snack bar and restaurant on the rock near the bay invite for a drink. The two different Hotels (one situated on the rocks , the other close to the ocean) invite you for a relaxing holiday. To Ribeira Brava, already a small city you need ca. 10 minutes driving. Ponta do Sol belongs to the warmest regions of Madeira, thats why it is called "point of the sun".The lights during the sunset are very impressive : the sun is going down and forms red and orange colours before it sets down in the atlantic.
The small village itself has only two Hotels. There is a very romantic road connecting Ponta do Sol with the next village - Madalena do Mar.In Ponta do Sol and Madalena do Mar you find lots of banana plantations.The small and aromatic Madeira banana grows up to 200 m above sealevel and is imported to the mainland.
