The island of Madeira has been famous for its Madeira wine for more than 500 years. Even with the signing of the independence declaration of the United States, a glass of Madeira wine triggered this event. But over the past few decades, more and more still wine is being produced on Madeira, and it has already gained international recognition.

On the Wine Tour you will not only learn everything about winegrowing and its production, but also enjoy an island tour with breathtaking views of the green south coast, the imposing north coast and the unique laurel forests.

In addition, during a walk of about 20 minutes you will get to know the system of Levadas, an around 2,500 km long system of water channels, which supplies the farmers' fields with water.

Start of the tour is at 09:30h in Funchal. Hotels in Funchal have a free pick up service.

In Funchal we visit Blandy's Wine Lodge, one of the oldest and most important Madeira wine producers. Here you will hear many interesting facts about the history and the production of the famous fortifies wine and you can taste two different Madeira wines.

From here we will take a comfortable minibus to the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, the most important wine region of Madeira. A walk along a levada, passing through picturesque vineyards, will give you an insight into Madeira wine-growing.

You will cross the island passing the laurel forests declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

In São Vicente, the second largest wine-growing region of the island, you can enjoy typical Madeira lunch with local ingredients in a country house, accompanied by various, harmonizing still wines.

After lunch we will visit a wine producer in Seixal, where we will have another wine tasting with different white, red and rosé wines.

On the way back, we will make one last stop at Barbeito's, a famous Madeira wine producer in Câmara de Lobos, where you can taste a selection of Madeira wines.

The tour will be accompanied by an English speaking tour guide, who will give you a lot of interesting information about the unique wine regions of Madeira, the wine making and history.
