To go to the island of Porto Santo it takes you ca. 2,5 h by boat.This small sister island of Madeira island has a sparse vegetation, but has a beautiful 9 km long sandy beach, thus its called "Ilha dourada" or "golden island".Here you can relax, no stress - no busy life around you .... even the inhabitants , the "Porto Santense" are immune against stress..
Nearly every day the ferry boat "Lobo Marinho" leaves Funchal at 08.00 am to arrive at Porto Santo at 10.30 am.Even if you want to enjoy the island just for one day its worth wile, you can return on the same day at 6.00 or 7.00 pm depending on the schedule (winter and summer schedule).Because of its terrain you can ride on a bicycle or hire a bike to discover the island, where Christopher Columbus was married to the daughter of the governor and lived for a short period. Today the Columbus House is open as a museum.
