the highest peaks in the distance, the river "Ribeira Brava" and beautiful green valleys. Still today you find lots of watermills in this regions.Serra de Agua has a lovely small centre with its church and some bars and snack-bars.
Place information Ribeira Brava
Ribeira Brava is one of the best places to start excursions and walks. From here it takes you only a few minutes to go to the western or northern part of the island. A very nice walk starts in the valley of Tabua along the Levada Nova and ends in Ribeira Brava ( 3,5 h).Visit the ethnografic museum in the centre of Ribeira Brava or start your walk at the top of Encumeada ( 1007 m )which you reach after driving up the pass through Serra de Água. From here you have the possibility to do some hiking tours, which we advise in the summer period:
Encumeada - Pico Grande - Boca das Namoradas ( ca. 4,5h-5h)
Encumeada - Cascalho - Bica da Cana ( ca. 5,5 h)
Encumeada - Pinaculo - Bica da Cana ( ca. 3,5h )
