Arco de Sao Jorge in the lovely north of Madeira: for sure one of the most beautiful regions especially in the summer period.Arco Sao Jorge was and still today is one of the regions with lots of vineyards.One of the attractions of Arco de Sao Jorge is the lovely Rosegarden with more than 2000 different roses.There are some smaller bars and snack-bars available.More restaurants and bars you find in Sao Vicente.
Place information Santana
Santana is in the northern part of the island and a good starting point for hiking tours. In the green valleys lots of vegetables, potatoes and maiz is cultivated.The tipical Santana Houses look like puppet houses, small, colourful and with thatched roofs.In a few minutes drive you reach the nature park of Queimadas, where you can start your walk along the Levada do Caldeirao Verde, or you can even go up to 1650 m to Achada do Teixeira, where you can reach in one hour walk the hightes peak of Madeira, the Pico Ruivo.
In the last years there was opened the Madeira Theme Park in Santana, which is worth a visit ( you need at least 3 hours to see all the attractions).
Another impressive walk leads you along the northcoast from Santana to Sao Jorge.
